It doesn't seem to. BIOS settings look like so:
Boot priority order:
1: USB FDD:
2: Legacy Floppy Drives
3: ATAPI CD0:DW-225-(SM)
4: USB CD:
5: IDE HDD0:
6: PCI LAN: IBA 4.1.07 Slot 0240
7: -USB HDD
8: IDE HDD1:
Excluded from boot order:
: IDE HDD2
: ATAPI CD1
Which is to say: if there were an actual device visible on
"IDE HDD0", I'd expect there to be some descriptor after
that label.

I'm downloading the live CD now.

Indeed. Once I get it working again, retrieving the data
will be no problem.
