I've never tried it, but my understanding is that it is built-in to
recent kernels. Try adding acl to your mount options in fstab (e.g.,
after rw) and see if it works. apt-get install acl, then use getfacl
and setfacl to manipulate ACL bits.
You probably don't want to do this on a partition that has mission
critical data not backed up elsewhere, at least until you know what
you're doing. I think the system is pretty stable but I'm not totally
certain.
Maybe you can report back here with your success or failure.
