Kevin J. Pecor Memorial Foundation Fundraiser—Sunday, Oct. 2 in Chicopee

Kevin Pecor was a 16 year-old bicyclist who was killed when he was hit by a
driver with a suspended license. Our Pioneer Valley chapter has worked
closely with Kevin’s mother, Sheila, to raise awareness about safety issues
on the road. Kevin’s Memorial Foundation is having a fundraiser on Sunday,
Oct. 2 from 5:00—9:00 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus in Chicopee. Tickets
are $35 in advance or $40 at the door. To reserve tickets, email
Sheila.Pecor at GMail.com . The event features food, live music, raffles, a
cash bar, and a live auction. Also, please contact your legislator and ask
them to support the Kevin J. Pecor Act, House Bill 669/Senate Bill 857,
which would allow driving on a suspended license to be considered as
evidence of negligence as it pertains to vehicular manslaughter.

Bike Night Set for Monday, Nov. 14—Silent Auction (and Cash) Donations
Needed!

This year’s 6th Annual Bike Night Celebration is taking place on Monday,
November 14 at Ryles Jazz Club in Cambridge. This benefit raises crucial
funds that help MassBike’s bike advocacy work throughout the year, and will
feature a fun silent auction including items such as a free tour and tasting
for up to 80 people at Harpoon Brewery, a private ride with professional
mountain biker Sara Bresnick of Team Ford, an autographed Greg LeMond
poster, and more. We also want to thank our generous business supporters
including Jason and Fischer; Landry's Bicycles; Redbones BBQ; Quad Cycles;
Seth Yurdin, Esq; Belmont/Ace Wheelworks; and Continental Resources.

Do you or your company offer products or services that you are able to
donate? Do you have new biking equipment or gear you haven’t used that you’d
like to pass along? Perhaps a vacation home where others could stay for a
weekend? Email vance at massbike.org to make your tax-deductible donation.

If you plan to attend Bike Night, please save time by purchasing your
tickets in advance online. We would also be so grateful if you would
strongly consider donating to our 2005 Bike Night Pledge Drive to help raise
the funds needed to support bike advocacy.

Make Your Voice Heard on the 20 Year State Transportation Plan—Final
Meetings

MassBike has been working hard to get bicyclists’ concerns into the state’s
20 Year Transportation Plan, but nothing helps make that a reality like
state officials hearing directly from concerned cyclists. You have four more
chances to speak out about the importance of bicycling and why the state
should make it a priority:

Thursday, October 6, 2005--Bristol Community College, Jackson Arts Center
(Room H209): 777 Elsbree Street, Fall River

Tuesday, October 11, 2005--Berkshire Regional Transit Authority Intermodal
Center (2nd floor): 1 Columbus Avenue, Pittsfield

Thursday, October 13, 2005--Leominster City Hall: 25 West Street (1st floor
auditorium), Leominster

Tuesday, October 18, 2005--Lynn City Hall, City Council Chamber: 3 City
Hall Square, Lynn

Each of these meetings features both daytime (3:00 p.m.) and evening (6:00
p.m.) sessions with a presentation from state staff and a chance to share
your views.

Bicycle Committee. The committee works on a variety of issues and reviews
major development and roadway plans from a cyclist perspective. Committee
applicants should be enthusiastic cyclists who live in Cambridge, can attend
monthly meetings, and are willing to work on projects. The Bicycle Committee
meets on the second Wednesday of the month from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. To apply

your interest in pedestrian or bicycle issues and the kinds of projects or
issues you would like to work on to randers at cambridgema.gov.

The Cambridge Bicycle Committee is organizing a 16 mile “Bow Tie” bike ride
around the city on Sunday, Oct. 2 (with a 6 mile option for kids/families),
celebrating the fact that the city of Cambridge is shaped like a bow tie.
This will be a gorgeous autumn ride, at an easy pace on mostly level
terrain. Both bike rides meet at 10:15am at Cambridge Common and depart at
10:30am. Rain date: Sunday October 9th, with same departure time.
