[Linux-disciples] usb keyboard annoyance

To the Sages at ld,

I have an MS Wireless Comfort Keyboard 1.0 A and its co-packaged wireless
mouse. On the transmitter, there is a PS2 connector and a usb one. My
system is dual-boot Windows and Ubuntu.

The mouse and keyboard will only work on Windows if only the USB is plugged
in. If they are both plugged in, nothing works. If the PS2 is plugged in,
only the keyboard works.

On the Ubuntu side, both the PS2 and the USB have to be plugged in for the
mouse and keyboard to both work.

In the BIOS and in Grub at startup, the keyboard will work in any of the
three combinations.

So, is there a way in Ubuntu to enable the keyboard and mouse to work with
just the USB plugged in. Or even to allow the keyboard to work (as it does
in the BIOS) with just the USB plugged in and a separate mouse plugged into
the PS2.
