[Linux-disciples] Hardware question

I wanted to upgrade my memory in my laptop from 2x256 to one 512 and one
256. Unfortunately, it only gives an obnoxious beep and a blank screen when
I do so. I am confident that I got the right module (200 pin SO-DIMM
pc-2700). I have swapped the slots and have successfully started the
computer with only one 256 but it would not start with just the 512. My
theory is that I need two modules of the same size if it is over the minimum
256. However, I don't want to waste another $50 if that is not the case. The
manual/web-site is worthless and I can't think of how to formulate a
reasonable google search for my question. Any insights?
