That's because dovecot is running as slaniel, not as dovecot. It's not
a setuid/setgid program.
I'm not sure why dovecot needs to access dovecot's private SSL key,
though. That's not the case on bostoncoop.net. In fact, I'm sure if
you point your fetchmailrc at bostoncoop.net with the same options it
will work fine.
What is your symlink for /usr/sbin/imapd?
