[Linux-disciples] Syncing mail

(First of all, sorry for halfway-monopolizing -- or maybe
monopsonizing -- this list.)

I'd like to use fetchmail over ssh. It's supposed to be
basically this easy:

poll laniels.org with proto imap:
plugin "ssh %h /usr/sbin/imapd" auth ssh

with the suitable modifications for the fact that my IMAP
server is /usr/sbin/dovecot, but that doesn't work for me:
I get

Fatal: Can't open configuration file /etc/dovecot.conf:
	Permission denied
fetchmail: socket error while fetching from laniels.org
	fetchmail: Query status=2 (SOCKET)

I'm sure there's an easy answer for how to make this work.
I'd like to not store a password anywhere -- I hope that the
presence of my laptop's public key in ~/.ssh/authorized_keys
on the server will suffice. No?
