The link you posted seems to be totally unrelated--I don't see anything
in there about jack--what lead you to the URL?

Have you tried run jack as root?

Isn't there a 'jackstart' command, or something like that?  Have you
tried that?

Are you sure ALSA is working?  You said sound works, but that doesn't
necessarily mean ALSA is working.  Try a command line sound player like
mpg321 or ogg123 and give it -d alsa and see if it will play.
