Check out the iwlist(8) manpage.  You are supposed to be able to scan
available APs with iwlist ath0 scanning.  There are also several handy
graphical tools, and I think something might be built into gnome at this
point.  

I've used wavemon in the past, which is an ncurses-based app.  It can be
handy for wardriving.  F3 supposedly gives you an AP list, although where
I am now (on the train) it lists 22 APs in range, so I'm not convinced
it's working.

Look through aptitude for 'wireless' (l wireless) and you'll see lots of
handy packages.

I'm not sure if the AP scanning works or not on this card.  I know with
earlier kernels it didn't quite work, but maybe it's fixed now.
