[Linux-disciples] newbie

Hi all,

Adam just told me about this list, and I'm excited to put it to use. I
am an extreme unix newbie, though, so please don't laugh at me. I
mean, I know how to make my way around the filesystem and do basic
things, but I'm just about to dive into setting up an Apache server so
I might need some help. I'm on Mac OSX, which is a BSD type system.
But you probably knew that already.

Anyway, I have my Apache v. 2.0.52 up and running and if I point my
browser to 127.0.0.1, I see the main Apache web page (the one that
says: If you can see this, it means that the installation of the Apache
web server software on this system was successful. You may now add
content to this directory and replace this page). However, I have my
own index.html file in my Apache2/htdocs folder, but that one is not
appearing when I go to 127.0.0.1. It IS appearing, however, when I
point my browser to 192.168.0.2 (my computers LAN IP address). Lastly,
if I point my browser to the IP address that my ISP has assigned my WAP
Router (I have the router configured to forward all http, https, and
ftp requests to 192.168.0.2), then NOTHING comes up--it just hangs and
says it can't open the page

So in summary:
127.0.0.1 - Apache front page
192.168.0.2 - My front page index.html in Apache2/htdocs folder
24.90.253.23 (the IP address assigned to my router by my ISP) - can't
open the page

Now I know that I have the router configured correctly because if I use
the Apache 1 server that ships with OSX ("Personal Web Sharing"), then
I CAN access my pages by going to http://24.90.253.23/. So something
is amiss in my Apache 2 conf. Can someone give me some hints as to why
this might be happening, and how to fix it?

Thanks so much!
Jamie Forrest
