[Linux-disciples] Synching a laptop

In the still-halfway-fantasy department, I may be getting a
laptop within the next couple months; it just makes sense
for me as an IT consultant. Now I'm thinking about the
details of laptophood, and one question comes to mind: how
do I keep my desktop's and laptop's home directories
synchronized? Every time my laptop goes online, I'd like it
to synch with the mothership. What's the best way to do
this? And is it even advisable? I can see running rsync on a
cron job every minute or so, but that seems like a kludge. I
assume there are readymade solutions to handle this kind of
synching. What do you guys recommend?
