[Linux-disciples] Mutt seems to have what I'm looking for

It sort of makes sense.  It's taking things very literally in 
interpretting the regexps.  There are times conceivably when you would 
the whitespace to count.  For example, you might want a send-hook that 
does something different if there is a space at the end of the subject 
line. (admittedly a contrived example, but it would be a way to signal 
something subtly to your MUA that your recipient wouldn't notice).

Incidentally, you should know that this list is publicly archived, and 
if any of those addresses are trying to keep themselves off the web for 
spam protection, you may have violated that wish.  I can try to clean it 
up in the archive when it goes through.
