No, Firebird and Mozilla are on separate development tracks. There isn't
much Firebird code going back into Mozilla, and installing Firebird
should have no effect on your Mozilla browser.

Is there any consistency to where/when it happens?  Is it reliably
reproducible?

I would guess off hand it's probably a rendering problem outside of
Mozilla all together, maybe with X or with Gnome/GTK.  Possibly upgrading
everything could help, if you haven't done that.

Note that you can also do screen capture with delay, which would give you
enough time to highlight the box if you want a proof-of-bug snapshot.
Several of the screen capture utils will do this.  There are also screen
capture utils that allow you to capture on keypress, so you wouldn't need
to lose focus.

I've never seen anything like this problem myself.
