The "Sweet Ride" is coming!
----------------------------------------------------
On Saturday, May 18, we'll be exploring the history
of candy in Cambridge with a 12 mile bike ride
surveying past and present-day candy makers.

----------------------------------------------------
Not that long ago, Squirrel Nut Zippers were being
manufactured in Cambridge. Clay Walker visited
the Area 4 factory in 1997 and filmed the production
process. He's been kind enough to let us post his
rare inside-look at the step-by-step process on the
Cambridge Bikes website.
It wouldn't be right to have a ride celebrating candy
history without having candy in our celebration. We're
proud to announce that we have no fewer than three
big names in candy sponsoring our ride with donations:
Cambridge Brands, a division of Tootsie Roll Industries
and city's only present-day candy maker. We can thank
their Main Street factory, making 15 million Junior
Mints a day, for the delicious scent of chocolate that
wafts through Central Square.
NECCO, whose former factory on Mass Ave was once the
world's largest candy factory. Still producing their
famous wafers and now Squirrel Nut Zippers in Revere.
Taza, just across the city line in Somerville, with
what may be the world's smallest candy factory,
making up in quality what they lack in scale.

Please enjoy our leisurely excursion and an abundance
of treats on the Sweet Ride, Saturday, May 18.
