<div dir="ltr"><div>The "Sweet Ride" is coming!</div><div><br></div><div>----------------------------------------------------</div><div>On Saturday, May 18, we'll be exploring the history </div><div>of candy in Cambridge with a 12 mile bike ride </div>
<div>surveying past and present-day candy makers.</div><div><br></div><div><a href="http://www.cambridgebikes.org/Spring2013">http://www.cambridgebikes.org/Spring2013</a></div><div>----------------------------------------------------</div>
<div><br></div><div>Not that long ago, Squirrel Nut Zippers were being </div><div>manufactured in Cambridge. Clay Walker visited </div><div>the Area 4 factory in 1997 and filmed the production </div><div>process. He's been kind enough to let us post his </div>
<div>rare inside-look at the step-by-step process on the </div><div>Cambridge Bikes website.</div><div><br></div><div>It wouldn't be right to have a ride celebrating candy </div><div>history without having candy in our celebration. We're </div>
<div>proud to announce that we have no fewer than three </div><div>big names in candy sponsoring our ride with donations:</div><div><br></div><div>Cambridge Brands, a division of Tootsie Roll Industries </div><div>and city's only present-day candy maker. We can thank </div>
<div>their Main Street factory, making 15 million Junior</div><div>Mints a day, for the delicious scent of chocolate that </div><div>wafts through Central Square.</div><div><br></div><div>NECCO, whose former factory on Mass Ave was once the </div>
<div>world's largest candy factory. Still producing their </div><div>famous wafers and now Squirrel Nut Zippers in Revere.</div><div><br></div><div>Taza, just across the city line in Somerville, with </div><div>what may be the world's smallest candy factory, </div>
<div>making up in quality what they lack in scale.</div><div><br></div><div>====================================================</div><div><br></div><div>Please enjoy our leisurely excursion and an abundance </div><div>of treats on the Sweet Ride, Saturday, May 18.</div>
