Pies (285 Beacon St., Somerville, on the Cambridge line between Porter and
Inman Squares) will donate 20% of the day’s sales to MassBike.



Cyclists will also get a free scone with your purchase—just remember to show

You Did It! State Bike Funding Saved



Thank you to all of our dedicated MassBike activists who wrote and called
Governor Romney. When the federal government announced a “rescission” (a
requirement that the state government return funds that the federal
government had already given them), MassBike and the cycling advocacy
community wanted to ensure that bike funding did not take a disproportionate
cut. Thanks to your grassroots advocacy, the administration took note and
100% of Transportation Enhancements dollars (a key source of bike funding)
were preserved, and Recreational Trails funds were also saved. Thank you for
your advocacy efforts, and thank you to Governor Romney and his
Administration for their work to support funding of bike projects.



Look for MassBike at the Boston Bike Show



Plan on stopping by the Boston Bike Show this weekend! They have generously
agreed to let MassBike have a free table to promote bike advocacy, so come
say hi! The show will take place at the Cyclorama at the Boston Center for
the Arts, 539 Tremont St. in Boston on Friday, March 11, 5:00-9:00 pm;
Saturday, March 12, Noon-6:00 pm; and Sunday, March 13, Noon-6:00 pm.

Join MassBike for a Free Fun Ride on Saturday, March 19



MassBike Board Member Doug Mink is leading a free, fun ride starting on the
morning of Saturday, March 19. The ride is co-sponsored by the Boston
Natural Areas Network and the Boston Bicycle Festival (the ride is the first
in a monthly series leading up to October’s Boston Bicycle Festival).



Riders will meet at 9:30 a.m. at the entrance to the Franklin Park Golf
Course and

at 10:00 at the concession stand on Castle Island in South Boston, and will
ride along the harbor and up the Neponset Trail if it is clear of snow.  If
the trail is impassable, we'll stay as close to it as we can.  Total
distance will range from 10 to 20 miles depending on the weather and stamina
of the riders who show up.  No lunch stop is scheduled, so bring a snack.
Helmets are required.



Are You Interested in Serving on the Statewide Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory
Committee?



After some government delay, the wheels are now turning on the creation of a
statewide Bicycling/Pedestrian Advisory Committee and the Administration has
asked MassBike to submit a list of potential nominees, to be chosen by the
Governor. If you are interested in serving on this committee, please submit
a brief bio (explaining your bicycling background and the reasons for your
interest) to MassBike at bikexec at massbike.org. We need this no later than
Friday, March 18. Please include your current mailing address, email, and
phone number. Also please note that the government vetting process does
involve a detailed background check.



Upcoming Lecture: Promoting Safe Walking and Cycling to Improve Public
Health



Professor John Pucher of Rutgers University will be at MIT on Thursday,
March 17 to lecture on the topic “Promoting Safe Walking and Cycling to
Improve Public Health: Lessons from Europe.” Join him from noon-2pm at a

Eastern Mass Transportation/Land Use Planner Job Available



MAPC, the Regional Planning Agency representing 101 cities and towns in
metro Boston seeks a Transportation/ Land Use Planner.  Full-time position,
state employee benefits.  Must be familiar with GIS/ Data research.
Successful candidate will possess a bachelor’s or higher-level degree in
Urban/Regional, Transportation Planning, or closely related field;
supplemented by 3 years experience, preferably in transportation planning.
