Software suspend 2 tends to be more advanced than the mainline kernel
software suspend, at the possible price of occasional leading edge
instability. You might try building your own latest kernel with the software
suspend 2 patches and scripts and see if your problems go away. Actually,
the software suspend 2 scripts are in Debian, so I would think they should
be in Ubuntu as well.
