[Linux-disciples] Weird referrer problem

I'm trying to set up a mod_rewrite rule that says:
1) if the referrer is example.com/change, and
2) the requested page ends in .html, then
3) rewrite the URL to example.com/script.php?page=page.html
So here I am looking at example.com/change. I click on
lunchdinner.html. This *should* get me to
example.com/script.php?page=lunchdinner.html . It doesn't.
It brings me to lunchdinner.html itself.
So I look in the access.log. It turns out that the referrer
for my request was just example.com, not example.com/change.
Any idea why this would happen?
Obviously this points out that referrer-based methods are
suspect. But for now they seem like the best approach.
