[Linux-disciples] mod_rewrite and query parts

I seem to remember there being some weirdness involved with
appending a query part to the right side of a RewriteRule.
E.g.,

RewriteRule ^(.*)\.html$ http://www.example.com/test/change1.php?page=${REQUEST_URI} [R]

Ignore the 'page=${REQUEST_URI}' bit for now; it may cause
its own problems, but they're not what I suspect is messing
me up right now.

I seem to remember someone telling me that this addition of
a query part in the substitution string just won't work. Is
that true? Can someone provide more detail?
