[Linux-disciples] Re: [breezy] upgrade killed X.org (fwd)

Ah ha! This solves my X.org problems. Turns out that the
refactoring of X.org pulled off various important drivers
into separate packages.

Presumably -- I'm trying to be charitable here -- not
everyone will need the keyboard or mouse drivers.
Presumably, though, at least 90% of people using X *will*
need them. So why didn't they get installed automatically?

Is it the case that the APT installation routine isn't smart
enough? E.g., in this case, we needed logic like so:

1) /etc/X11/xorg.conf refers to a driver "Keyboard".
2) That driver has been separated, in the upgraded
xserver-xorg package, into a new package.
3) Hence, install the new package.
4) Repeat steps 1) through 3) for all other drivers that
have been pulled off into new packages.

Is this unreasonable?

1) Install xserver-xorg-driver-nv
2) I believe you will (i had to do this last night) install
xserver-xorg-input-kbd and xserver-xorg-input-mouse
3) dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
4) restart GDM

That worked for me. Hope it works for you.
