[Linux-disciples] Apache/Perl running out of memory

Recently, my Apache machine has been running out of memory.
The server grinds to a halt and I get a screen full of
errors telling me that Perl (which I assume means one of the
Perl CGI scripts) has run out of memory and a process had to
be killed. I thought that moving Apache to its own
(basically) dedicated machine, and moving the mail server to
a server of *its* own would fix the problem, but apparently
not.
Googling a bit brings up this bit of advice:

Has anyone else experienced this problem? My blog's gotten
9,000 hits or so since the log restarted on Sunday, and the
site itself has gotten just shy of 18,000; is it really that
my site's overloaded, or should I look elsewhere for
problems?
(The machine it runs on is a 400 MHz P2 with 320 megs of
RAM.)
