Try netenv. I haven't researched to see if it will really do what you
want, but it might.

My approach would be to just have your detector (be it netenv or
something else) set the card's ESSID as the one you know, then try
fping'ing the known IP address of the router--if it gets an echo, then it
knows where it is.
