Hm, well the port 9673 gave it away.
I think it's just that you can't Rewrite directly to other ports--you
have to use mod_proxy. I wouldn't worry too much about how mod_proxy
works; generally it just works.

Maybe you don't have mod_proxy enabled?
The RewriteRule above works for me.
