Think of Income:Salary as a pool of money that you can withdraw from.
Once you withdraw from it, it goes into your bank account.
Every transaction is only a transfer from one account to the other.
One thing to take a look at is under Edit/Preferences/Accounts, the
'Reversed-balance account types'; this controls what balances are
displayed negatively on the summary screen. Everything is subtracted
from one account and added to another, but it can show up as adding to
both accounts because of this.
Also, if you look at a transaction from the register window for a
particular account, the column headings will make sense for the splits
to that account, but not necessarily for the other accounts. Try
looking at the same transaction from several different accounts.
