[Linux-disciples] USB Mouse

I installed Debian 3.0 tonight, and everything seemed to install OK, but
I am having trouble with the basics. Let's start with my mouse. It's a
USB Mouse. I'm told that the corresponding device file for this is
/dev/input/mice, so that's what I set it to in my XF86config file. But
XFree86 says,

xf86OpenSerial: Cannot open device /dev/input/mice
    No such device.

Something I saw via google suggested that I may need to do "insmod
input" first, but when I tried that, I got:

"insmod: input: no module by that name found"

So I'm not sure how to proceed. Any input would be great.

Brian
