I've had various weird problems getting sound to work. Sometimes I
needed to *remove* certain modules that were blocking, sometimes add some
more. If /dev/dsp exists and you can echo to it, that's a good start.
Unfortunately I don't have a very good systematized way of getting sound
to work, it's usually just trial and error (or it just "works" out of the
box).
