Just to make sure we're barking up the right tree, if you run
alias cp='\cp -i'
alias mv='\mv -i'
from the command line and then run 'cp' and 'mv', do you get the
interactive prompts?
Also if you put an 'echo' statement in your .bashrc, do you see the
output from that? (make sure .bashrc is running at all).
