[Linux-disciples] trouble with .bashrc

Hi Everyone,

I'm Adam's friend from college, Jamie, and I'm new to this list and to 
the un*x world.  I'm on Mac OSX.  I'm having trouble getting my .bashrc 
profile to "take."  I just want to set up (for now) a couple of 
aliases:

alias cp='cp -i'
alias mv='mv -i'

I put this in a .bashrc file in my ~/ directory, with -rwxr-xr-x  
permissions.  But when i use cp and mv, I don't get the prompt, even 
when I restart the shell (Terminal program).

Any hints for me?
