One little xconfig gripe: it doesn't helpfully tell you
dependencies. E.g., just now I was trying to compile the
driver for my Ensoniq sound card into the kernel, and it
looked like the only options available to me were 'no' or
'compile as module'. All the relevant entry says is

/*
(Creative) Ensoniq AudioPCI 1371/1373 (SND_ENS1371)

Say 'Y' or 'M' to include support for Ensoniq AudioPCI
ES1371 and Sound Blaster PCI 64 or 128 soundcards.
*/

On a whim, I decided to compile ALSA into the kernel.
Suddenly compiling my driver into the kernel was possible.
It seems as though the driver-config option should tell you
this, yes?
