[Linux-disciples] Making kernel upgrades easier

I'm upgrading to kernel 2.6.10 right now, and I just had to
press enter 500 times to accept the defaults when asked
whether I want support for new and obscure types of
hardware. I'd like some way to make this upgrade easier. In
increasing order of desirability, here's what I'd like:
either

1) An option -- say, 'make oldconfig-defaults' -- that will
take whatever my configuration in .config was, then accept
the defaults for every new config option.

2) A program that will look at my system and pick kernel
options based on what I actually have on my system.

3) A program that will do what 2) does, but also optionally
install any hardware -- as modules or into the kernel --
that I could conceivably have on my machine.

Does anyone out there know of such a program or 'make'
target?
