[Linux-disciples] Sound card just stopped working

At some random point last night, the sound card on my
Thinkpad running Ubuntu stopped working. It's still not
working, and I've no idea why. The volume control in my
GNOME panel looks normal; when I try to play an Ogg file
with ogg123 I get

and yet nothing comes out of the speaker.
