[*BCM*] x-country film tour rider asking for help

hi BCM

my name is bill. i'm a crit masser living
in detroit. i'm also a filmmaker, and
i just finished a movie about immigrant
activists along the US/MX border. now
the crazy part: i'm planning to take
the movie on a cross-country bike tour,
starting from DC in July and hitting
SF, hopefully, by early Sept. i'd be
mighty grateful for some help in a few
areas:

1. mapping the trip. i'd like to take
the Allegheny Trail from DC to Pittsburgh
(no traffic). from Pitts to SF is still
a big mystery. i'd like to stay away from
big cities, as much as possible. any tips?

2. i'm looking for partners to join me
for as much/as little of the trip as
they'd like. it's going to be pretty
slow going, what with film screenings 
on most evenings. 40-50 mi/day, tops. 

3. i'm also looking for a decently
reliable touring bike. maybe someone
has an old tour bike lying around in
the garage they'd consider lending/selling
me? or maybe someone has a lead
on a cheap old tour bike?
