MassBike November Update

Bike Night: Announcing Two Special Guest Speakers

MassBike’s 6th Annual Bike Night Celebration just got even better. We’re
proud to announce that two of the most influential transportation leaders in
the state—MBTA General Manager Dan Grabauskas and MassHighway Commissioner
Luisa Paiewonsky—will be our special guest speakers for the evening. Join us
on Monday, Nov. 14 from 6:00—9:00 p.m. at Ryles Jazz Club, 212 Hampshire
Street, Inman Square, Cambridge. This benefit raises crucial funds that help
MassBike’s advocacy work throughout the year.

You’ll enjoy light appetizers, free bike valet parking, and a great silent
auction featuring items such as a hot tub rental and massage from Urban
Oasis Cambridge, a special ride in the Fells with professional bicyclist
Sara Bresnick-Zocchi, a private cruise around Boston Harbor, and more. To
see a list of silent auction items, please visit this page:

We also want to thank our generous business supporters including Jason and
Fischer; Landry's Bicycles; Redbones BBQ; Quad Cycles; Seth Yurdin, Esq;
Belmont/Ace Wheelworks; Bay State Speedskating Club; and Continental
Resources.

Want to Get More Involved with MassBike? Run for our Board

Are you interested in taking your bicycling advocacy to the next level? Each
December, MassBike members elect our Board of Directors. Our
organization--Massachusetts' statewide bicycling education and advocacy
group--is in a growth phase and needs talented advocates to help us grow and
become even more effective. MassBike Board members serve for three years and
are responsible for setting organizational goals, helping to accomplish them
with their time and expertise, and raising funds and maintaining fiscal
oversight of the organization.

If you’re passionate about improving bicycling conditions and would like to
harness your energy to help MassBike, we’d love to hear from you. This year,
we’re especially looking for candidates who have prior board experience and
have experience with fundraising and business/financial issues. We are also
eager for help from dedicated advocates with other skills. Please note that
our application deadline is Monday, Nov. 14.

To learn more about serving on the MassBike Board, please visit our website
at http://www.massbike.org/about/board.htm

Is Your MBTA Bus Route Getting a Bike Rack?

Working with MassBike, the MBTA has announced it will install 250 bike racks
on buses next spring. MassBike has obtained a list of the affected bus
routes from the MBTA. Want to find out if your bus will get a rack? (All
buses on an affected route will be equipped.)

in, we still need help with bike parking, silent auction management,
merchandise sales, set-up, clean-up, and more. Volunteers get in free.

experienced cyclist or a novice, this Ride is for you! Find out more, and
meet staff, riders and crew at the Ride 2006 Kick Off Party and Reunion on
Wednesday, November 9th; 6-8p.m. in the Landmark Center 2nd Floor (above
REI) , 401 Park Drive, Boston. Refreshments will be served. (Receive 15% off

Donate to Our Bike Night Pledge Drive: Only $1740 to Go

MassBike is trying to raise an extra $7500 to help bike advocacy for the
coming year, but we can only do it with your assistance. We’re nearly
there—we just need another $1740 to put us over the top. Your donation will
be put to good use and, as always, is tax-deductible.

Cycling Boston's Underground Railroad

MassBike volunteer Knox Gardner has put together a draft bike route
connecting various stops along the historical Underground Railroad in
Boston. He is interested in getting feedback on the route and finding ways
to make this tricky urban ride more family friendly, and would also like to
gauge interest in pursing National Park service recognition for this route.
If you’d like to learn more or get involved in this effort (which will
require a regularly-programmed ride), please contact Knox Gardner,
knoxg at hotmail.com.
