TONIGHT! Join MassBike for a chapter development meeting

It may be snowy, but MassBike is intent on starting the New Year right. Join
us tonight—Wednesday, January 5—at 6:30 p.m. for our MassBike chapter
development meeting. If you’d like to learn more about starting a MassBike
chapter in your region and working on local bike issues, please join us. We’
ll also have pizza available, and will be meeting in our office at 20 Park
Plaza, Ste. 1028 (Arlington T on the Green Line). Please RSVP to
bikexec at massbike.org. If you can’t make it but are interested in getting
involved, please contact us, as well.

Welcome to MassBike’s New Directors

MassBike is pleased to announce the election of seven new board members.
(MassBike had originally planned to elect six new directors, but Board
Member Ted Hamann of Falmouth recently resigned, opening another spot. Ted’s
longstanding service is much appreciated.) Thanks to everyone who ran for
the board, and to all those who voted in our December elections. Our new
board members are Jeff Bayard of Medford; Alison Dewey of Beverly; Ed Gross
of Falmouth; Christopher Igleheart of Wenham; Wayne Maceyka of West Newton;
and Lindsay Swain of Cambridge. Current board member Kevin Porter was
re-elected to a second term. Also, all recommended Constitution changes were
approved. The goal of the proposed Constitution changes was to increase
board member accountability and participation.

Folding Bike Winner Announced, and Thank you for Year-End Contributions

Congratulations to Rita Long of Waltham, who won the Gekko folding bike in
our year-end drawing! This lovely bike was donated by Robert Fine and
Community Bicycle Supply in Boston’s South End. MassBike would like to thank
everyone who contributed to our year-end fundraising drive, which brought in
an amazing 44 new members in December and $11,460 in renewals, new
memberships, and additional contributions. Your generous donations allow us
to advocate for better cycling year-round and truly make a difference.

Still feeling the urge to help MassBike? We’d love it if you would consider

Become a League Cycling Instructor

MassBike is bringing a League Cycling Instructor training program to Boston
this April 15-17. If you’d like to be certified to teach people cycling
skills, this is your only chance to do it this year in New England. You must
have completed the “Road I” course, offered in the past by MassBike, in
order to take this training. However, we will be offering a “Road I” course
in late February to ensure that everyone who wants to take the LCI class is
eligible. There is a registration fee of $175 payable to the League of
American Bicyclists. Please email any questions to bikexec at massbike.org.

For more information and to pre-register (we need you to do so as soon as
possible), please click here

Lobbying for Bicycling in Washington

Would you like to take the next step in your bicycling advocacy? Each year,
the League of American Bicyclists coordinates the National Bike Summit, in
which people learn about bike advocacy at the national level and then lobby
their representatives in Washington. MassBike coordinates the Massachusetts
delegation, and we’d love to have you join us this year from March 16-18.
There is a cost for Summit registration, and participants must pay for their
own transportation and lodging. To RSVP if you plan to go, please email
bikexec at massbike.org.

To register for the conference and for more information, visit the League of
American Bicyclists’ webpage:
