Regarding the journalist's survey:

I think it would be really interesting if folks would also reply to the list. 
While certainly not required, it might (a) force each of us to think about why
this is important to us, and (b) help us practice expressing those ideas and
ideals.  It'll also (c) open us up to each others' ideas and ideals, which is a
key aspect of any community.
