Dear SBCers,
I saw the following article on Mopeds in the Globe this morning:
http://www.boston.com/news/local/articles/2008/07/20/mopeds_uncharted_ground?mode=PF
I was particularly interested in the fact that mopeds are legally motorized
bicycles.
I can only imagine mopeds and motor assisted bicycles and electric scooters,
not to mention segways, will only become more common.
I suggest we consider their status on the roads and be proactive about them.
Furthermore, if we are looking into the bike lane regulations, we should
consider how motorized bicycles, and the like, fit in the regs.
Some questions:
What is a motorized bicycle? (mopeds, scooters, etc)
Can motorized bikes or similar use bike lanes?
Can they park at bike racks?
Can they park on the street?
Can they park on sidewalks?
Can they drive on sidewalks (outside of business districts)?
Can they ride on the community path?
Must developments provide parking for them?
Do the T&P parking regs clearly answer these questions?
Maybe we know some of the answers, maybe we don't.
Alan, does it make sense for someone to look into these issues prior to our
next meeting?
If so, does anyone have time to look into this?
~Brian
