Some additional good news ... I was at Porter Square station and met the
MBTA Construction chief who had bolt cutters in hand to remove abandoned
bikes.. they had already done Davis Square..

Subject: Red Line bike parking
Hi Jeff et al -
Most days that I park my bike at Alewife Station, I'm amazed by how many
people ride during the summer (and all year round for that matter). Last
week while on paternity leave, I went over to Alewife in the middle of a
sunny, 70-degree weekday to make a count. For the work you're doing with the
T on bike parking issue, I thought it might be helpful to have a sense of
the demand: to my pleasant surprise I counted 202 bikes and I was careful to
exclude obviously abandoned/vandalized bikes. From what I typically see
early in the AM and on my way home, I don't think this was an aberration and
is probably the norm on nice days.
Given that it's not uncommon for up to 100 bikes to be parked at other
stations in Cambridge, the quantity of T-riders who start their trip on bike
and need good end-of-trip facilities is possibly more significant than many
realize.
I hope you find this helpful. Good luck!
-Phil
