Subject: City Report for May 21, 2007

Here's my regular city report:

O. Urban Core Study - No Report

1. Status of committee memberships: I will be submitting a request for
"mass" re-appoint this week ..

2. Somerville Community Path:

a. Davis Square: The Davis Square Task Force presentation went successfully.
The Task Force endorsed changes to the busway despite the need to remove 7
mature trees and one dying tree. The Task Force supported efforts to modify
the design of the area behind Brooks so that 8 trees are preserved. I am
meeting with the Aldreman Gewirtz to discuss impacts of the design

b. Cedar to Central: The City will receive the Brownfields Grant!! A
resolution to accept the land tomorrow is before the Aldermen Wednesday and
Thursday. Round 2 of the Brownfields assessment has been completed and is
generally consistent with Round 2.

c.	The Tufts Students report on Ball Square on April 24th went very
well.. They came up with several ideas for community centric stations..

d.	Significant progress in incorporating Steering and Bike Committee
concerns in Land Disposition Agreement An initial vote will be held
Wednesday at 6:30 PM.

c.	Other: I am attending a Rails to Trails meeting to discuss future
strategies to fund trails.

3. Davis Square Bike Route signs: Groundwork starting on way-finding signs..

4. Safe-START: No word on funding. BOA follow-up meeting in the works

5. Mystic River Paths

			*	The Meeting on the Crossing went well.. Even
the cheapest alternatives would cost over $5 million. DCR prefers a separate
crossing due to the cost. There was consensus to focus on the connection
from Draw 7 to Charlestown for now.

6. MAPC Bike Rack Program: I have found funding in the Active Living Budget.

7. Assembly Square:
		a.	PUD -
		b.	Retenanting of the Mall - The racks have been
installed
		c.	Alan sent letter

8. Active Living: Nicole Rioles continues to work with Walk Boston on
walking maps.

9. Eastern Mystic River Coalition: Coalition continues to meet on issues
concerning development and planning of the Water front.

10. Road Projects.
Somerville Ave: Has started. Patching okay for bikes for now
Beacon Street: Postponed until 2010 TIP.
East Broadway: Some work at Lombardi as part of IKEA effort
	School Street Bike Lanes: ???

11. DCR - Alewife Brook Trail: No Report

12. MA Central / East Coast Greenway Route from Boston north: No R
