if you're wondering why it says "Springfield Terminal Railway Company", Guilford
(now PanAm Rail) bought Springfield Terminal Railway Company about 15 yrs. ago
as they were a 4-mile long railroad in Vermont with a different and tiny union
compared to all the other railroads they owned. They they made employees on
other railroads employees of Springfield Terminal Railway Company
so they could better negotaite with the small union employees. They then closed
the 4-mile Springfield Terminal Railway Company in VT which is now a rail
trail.
Also because of Guilford refusal to maintain their track for Amtrak north of
Springfield, the train to Montreal must detour about 50 miles via Palmer MA and
Brattleboro, VT.
