Following my longstanding habit of taking Adam's advice several weeks
after he gives it, I just ran into the same keyboard-and-mouse-bailing
problem that produced the above advice. Previously, it took three reboots
to get the keys and mouse back. This time it took FIVE. So, that's bad.

I downloaded the 2.4.22 kernel from kernels.org back when Adam gave that
advice, but didn't follow through until now. I'm following the advice in
~/linux-2.4.22/README, namely (short form)

1) make oldinstall
2) make dep
3) make bzImage
4) some other stuff

I say "some other stuff" because I'm stuck on 3). See the sequence of
errors below for what that gets me. I don't know why these errors are
showing up; some of the files that it says are missing are, in fact,
there - such as /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i386-linux/2.95.4/include/limits.h. Any
idea what these errors are all about?

I hope fixing the kernel will fix this problem, or else I can see a
future device failure requiring 1200 reboots.
