[Linux-disciples] Systemwide cgi-bin

I'm trying to get blosxom (http://www.blosxom.com/) - a weblog package by
Rael Dornfest with a truly wretched name that only a hacker could have
devised - to work on my machine, and I'm noticing the value of using
standard directories (a point which Adam has made for a while). I had
been using, for instance, /var/laniels.org for one of my websites, and
just switched it back to /var/www/laniels.org because that seemed closer
to the standard directory that every Debian package tries to install to.
(Actually, most of my files were in ~/public_html anyway, which I think
is probably the safest route.)
Now I notice that blosxom expects me to be using a systemwide cgi-bin
directory, namely /usr/lib/cgi-bin. Since I'm running multiple sites on
my machine, any of which could have its own cgi-bin, it seems silly to
make this a systemwide setting. But since blosxom installed to
/usr/lib/cgi-bin, and any upgrades will go there, I decided that I'd just
symlink /usr/lib/cgi-bin/blosxom from within laniels.org's cgi-bin
directory (namely ~/public_html/cgi-bin). Is this a good idea? Is there a
better approach?
Sorry if this message is confusing and directory-name-laden.
