Are you tracking several distributions at once (e.g., stable, testing,
and unstable)?  By default, the APT cache is limited to an arbitrary
number of packages, less than the total number of packages in those three
distributions. =20

I believe the relevant parameter in apt.conf is Cache-Limit.  If you set
Cache-Limit to be a high number it should make the error go away.  E.g.:=20

/etc/apt/apt.conf:

APT::Cache-Limit 10000000;
