conference committee of the state legislature will be debating a proposal today
to allocate funds for a statue honoring Major Taylor, the groundbreaking 1899
world cycling champion and Massachusetts resident. This will be Worcester’s
first public monument to an African-American, and is currently included in the
House version of the 2006 supplemental budget, but not the Senate version. This
$205,000 allocation would essentially complete fundraising for the statue so the
selected sculptor can start work.<o:p></o:p></FONT></FONT></SPAN></P>

National Bike Summit, organized by the League of American Bicyclists, is an
annual bicycle advocacy conference and day of lobbying federal legislators to
support bicycle projects and funding. Each year, MassBike leads a delegation
from Massachusetts. If you’re a bike shop owner or worker, a bike commuter, a
recreational rider, or any kind of burgeoning advocate who cares about improving
bicycling conditions in Massachusetts, please consider joining us. The Summit
runs from Wednesday, March 1-Friday, March 3. Participants will be responsible
for their own conference fees (payable to the League of American Bicyclists) and
