From bensommer89 at gmail.com Fri Feb 3 15:13:24 2012 From: bensommer89 at gmail.com (Ben Sommer) Date: Fri, 3 Feb 2012 15:13:24 -0500 Subject: [*BCM*] LIFT Bike Project Message-ID: Hi Everyone, My name is Ben Sommer and I'm the coordinator for the LIFT Bike Project, a non-profit with the mission of donating used bikes to low-income residents in the Boston area. We work closely with the Green Streets Initiative and Roll It Forward in Boston and are excited about expanding the network of biking enthusiasts and activists in the Boston area. We have just started our volunteer run "refurb nights" where volunteers help fix up donated bicycles. Here is a blurb from the Green Streets Initiative Website. The LIFT Bike Project, an organization dedicated to donating refurbished bicycles to homeless and low-income residents of Cambridge, Boston, and Somerville, will kick off its 2012 ?refurb nights? February 1st. Every Wednesday from 7-9 PM, volunteers will gather at Quad Bikes ( http://www.quadbikes.org) to help fix up bikes for a giveaway on the Green Streets Initiative's April Walk/RIde Day, when 100 people will become the proud new owners of a great set of wheels. Refurb nights are both fun and a great way to meet a range of people with a passion for community service and biking. While no mechanic experience is required, volunteers should come prepared to learn something new. Whether you're a refurb night veteran or hearing about this opportunity for the first time, come on down - everyone is welcome. For those who can't make it to refurb nights, there are other ways to help. Maybe you have an old bike lying in your basement - LIFT would love for you to donate it. Please feel free to contact Ben at liftbostonbikeproject at gmail.com with any questions, or visit liftbikeproject.blogspot.com. If you'd like to get in touch with me feel free to call me at 617 642 8788, or email be at this address or at liftbostonbikeproject at gmail.com. Thanks! A list of CM rides says that a CM ride departs from City Hall Park in Burlington (at the standard time / day of month). Is this info up to date with what actually happens? Thanks in advance! I am the promoter for Bicycle Dreams, the award-winning film about Race Across America (RAAM) that we are bringing to Boston next week as a benefit for MassBike, and as part of our current nationwide tour. I sent you information previously about our show, but I have yet to see it in print and am hoping you can get our press release into print ASAP, since our event is next Tuesday. If you have already run our release, I thank you very much. But if you haven't, or can get it in again as a reminder, I would please ask that you do so. This film has been selling out theaters from coast to coast on its current tour, but we apparently have not successfully gotten the word out to the Boston community as ticket sales so far are lagging well behind other cites, such as Hartford where we have a show the following night. I have attached our press release, along with our jpeg logo and a photo to be used as artwork with any story you may run. Also, if you could get this listed in your events calendar that would be greatly appreciated. Also, I had mentioned previously that if any of you would like to put a local angle on the story, we have an incredible human interest story associated with this screening. Patrick Autissier of Boston, one of the riders who figures prominently in the film, is going to attend the show ... he is an AIDS researcher at Boston College who competed in RAAM in 2005 to raise awareness for AIDS research and will be competing in RAAM 2012 on a team comprised of three HIV-positive racers and himself, conducting AIDS research along the way. If you would like to interview Patrick, please let me know right away and I can arrange that. Producer/director Stephen Auerbach is also available for interviews. If you have any questions, please also contact me right away. Otherwise, I thank you for your attention to this matter.
