If someone has an Internet connection, they can afford $40.
Enabling this sort of rationalization doesn't help anyone's head. I use to
do these rides without a helmet, and I had a $2k bike.
I'm not baiting someone here to spill out how pathetic of a finance
circumstances they might be in... No one's more sympathetic about people
being in a bind then me.
I'm just saying, it's not the leading reason why people don't wear helmets.
But it isn't a leading excuse people give, either.
There are helmet assistance programs, often organized by police departments.
You can call your local police department to see if they know of one. I
believe Allston-Brighton cops just had an event for one.
