Noam Chomsky has been a Bikes Not Bombs donor and member for more than
12 years, and he will be donating his time to speak as a benefit for
BNB on December 13th. As the war stretches on in Iraq and threatens to
spread into unending war for the US in more countries, this is an
important time to hear from Professor Chomsky on the political, social
and economic consequences of the current war. Thus we can deepen our
understanding of the workings of power and consider how we can best
work towards lasting peace and social justice.

Doors open at 6:30pm. Noam Chomsky will be speaking first, followed by
a question and answer period. Next will be a slideshow by Carl Kurz,
founder of Bikes Not Bombs, giving a history of BNB's beginnings in
war-torn Nicaragua, and an updated overview of BNB's international and
youth work today. A brass choir (including BNB members) will be opening
and closing the event with brief performances of shape-note and
Croatian harmonies, played on tuba, trombones, french horn, and
trumpet.

"Judged in terms of the power, range, novelty and influence of his
thought, Noam Chomsky is arguably the most important intellectual alive
today," wrote Paul Robinson in the New York Times Book Review. Chomsky,
a 79 year-old professor of linguistics at the Massachusetts Institute
of Technology, is the most widely known critic of American foreign
policy, especially as it affects ordinary citizens of Third World
nations. For more information on Noam Chomsky's work, books, articles,

DIRECTIONS:
* The Minuteman Bike Path crosses the intersection of Mass Ave and
Pleasant Street (about a block from the church). This is about a 10
minute ride on the path going north from Alewife T station. We are
bringing racks so you can lock up your bike on the lawn of the church.

* Buses from the Alewife T station are a 10 minute ride and let you out
2 blocks from the church. (From Alewife take either the #79 "Arlington
Hts Mass Ave" or the #67 "Turkey Hill Via Arlington Ctr") Use the MBTA
Trip Planner:http://mbta.com/rider_tools/trip_planner/

* By Commuter Rail, get off at Porter Square in Cambridge and catch a
bus directly to Arlington Center (we suggest the #77 "Arlington Hts
Mass Ave"). Use the MBTA Trip
Planner:http://mbta.com/rider_tools/trip_planner/

* Driving directions are very simple: traveling north on Massachusetts
Avenue, turn left on Pleasant Street at the main intersection of
Arlington Center, and the church is on your right in the second block.
Unrestricted parking is available on Pleasant Street after 6pm. There
is also a city lot in Arlington Center which will be free for parking
after 6pm. (Driving north on Mass Ave, go through the lights at the
intersection with Pleasant St, then take your first right to get to the
parking lot. 2.5 blocks from the event!)
