=v= In NYC most people use "New York" chains instead of U-locks,
because they're more secure. You can't use them with parking
meters, of course, but they give you many more options of things
to lock up to.

=v= Locking bikes to trees is bad news, because it can kill the
trees. :-(

| City officials say cyclists aren't looking hard enough. The
| city has installed 350 bike racks across Boston, including in
| every neighborhood business district, the officials said. On
| one side of Boylston Street between Arlington and Berkeley
| streets, there are four metal loops provided for bike parking.

=v= Four loops, gosh. Such a windfall.

=v= 350 citywide is a meaningless number without knowing how
many bike commuters need to park their bikes. Is that number
available? A _Globe_ story about Bike-to-Work Week indicates
38,000 daily bike trips in Boston.
