We have done Mem drive many times. One such adventure, years ago, resulted in an arrest. If you really want to mess things up, ride on Storrow. We have done that too.
The best way to plan a ride ahead of time is to do it yourself and make a map. Pass the map out at the ride and lead with confidence for as long as you can.
We haven't used a map in years. It doesn't mean we won't. You will find over time that CM is organic and largely independent of this list server. Everybody repeat the rules after me: "We meet the last Friday of every month, 5:30 pm, at Copley Square". The rest my friend is up for grabs.
I laughed this past Friday, because we didn't ride through the tunnel. The first time in while.

I'm thinking this would be a good route for sept's CM? Also do some of this you keep this up into fall/winter? I'm new to this and my first ride was this past one.

Eh, biking on Memorial Drive isn't that big of a deal. I did it once..
granted, I was using my highest gear and pretty much going faster than I'd
ever gone on my bike. May not have been the safest way to get downtown for
me, but it's a helluva lot faster than the root-riddled sidewalk on which
the majority of the traffic consists of recreational cyclists, joggers,
walkers, et cetera.
Anyway, back to being on vacation. Have fun in the rain! ;D
