Come to the MassBike-MetroBoston Kickoff Meeting



Would you like to get involved with bicycling advocacy at a local level? We’
re starting a MassBike-MetroBoston chapter and would love for you to help
get things off the ground. The meeting will take place on Wednesday, January
26th from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. We will define the vision and geographic scope
for the chapter, brainstorm issues to be addressed, and lay out next steps.
The meeting will be held at University Lutheran Church, 66 Winthrop Street
in Harvard Square, Cambridge (modern brick building past Pinocchio’s pizza;
ring the front doorbell at the main entrance). If you are interested in
taking part in this exciting initiative, we encourage you to RSVP or just

Sign Up Now for MassBike’s Cycling Skills Class: March 16 and 20



Would you like to learn how to ride more confidently in traffic? MassBike's
Cycling Skills Class will teach beginning and intermediate cyclists the
skills necessary to ride safely in traffic. This course will build
confidence and teach important safety skills and tips for commuting. The
class meets in Boston with an off-bike learning session on Wednesday, March
16 from 5:30—8:30 p.m., and an on-bike skills training on Sunday, March 20
from 9:00 a.m.—5:00 p.m. The cost of the course, taught by League Cycling
Instructor and former Boston “bike czar” Paul Schimek, is $50 for members of
MassBike, Charles River Wheelmen, and participants in the Mass Red Ribbon
Ride. The regular cost for others is $60. ***Please note that if you plan to
take the “League Cycling Instructor” training course from April 15-17 and
have not completed your “Road I” course, this will be your only opportunity
to do so.***

Get Involved in Pioneer Valley MassBike Advocacy



MassBike-Pioneer Valley is looking for new members and energy. Help cycling
in Western Mass, build your resume, and have fun! Particular needs include a
Norwottuck Rail-Trail representative from Northampton; a Pioneer Valley
Planning Commission Joint Transportation representative/attendee; an
education officer; newsletter writing; and meeting with legislators. If you’

Interested in Eastern Mass Regional Planning? MetroFuture Citizens Seminar
on January 27th



The Metropolitan Area Planning Council’s MetroFuture project is creating
planning tools
to help communities understand the consequences of their choices, and the
tradeoffs of
different approaches. MetroFuture will forecast how the region will grow if
"business as usual" continues, and we will enlist residents and experts to
create "alternative futures" based on the visions we have heard over the
past year. Now is the time to get involved-come find out how you can help
make a "Greater Boston Region." Join featured speaker Mayor Tom Menino of
Boston on Thursday, January 27 at the South Boston Convention and Exhibition
Center. The event runs from 8:00 a.m.—11:30 a.m. For more information or to

Pro Cycles in Wakefield is closing its doors on Jan 29th.  Inventory,
fixtures, shop tools and equipment is available for sale until that date.
