It features two days of pre-conference workshops, including folks well-known to the broader intentional communities movement, including Laird Schaub & Ma'ikwe Ludwig, Diana Leafe Christian, and some key cohousing thought leaders, including Chuck Durrett, Katie McCamant, Jim Leach and many others. Pre-conference community tours are also available. These are followed by a weekend of regular conference activities. Presentations will address everything from the basics of cohousing and designing and building communities, to living in community and sustaining the movement throughout the country. Registration includes Friday night Keynote by John Abrams and reception, all presentations on Saturday and Sunday, and Saturday Night Dinner Fund-raiser Auction. Funds raised at our auction help support both Coho/US and the FIC. Also included are breakfast and lunch on Saturday, and breakfast on Sunday. Apartment-style dormitories with private baths (per apartment) are available for all conference participants; if you prefer a hotel, several are nearby. Parking is free, ample and close to the conference buildings. Campus-wide wi-fi is available free of charge. The best deals can be had by registering early as registration cost increases on May 31, 2008. http://www.cohousing.org/2008/register For more info, see the Cohousing Website section on the 2008 conference: http://www.cohousing.org/2008/overview -- http://picasaweb.google.com/handinhandarts/EarthDayWindowMural Artists are messengers whose responsibility is to unite the world - a faith that will lead not to destruction but to transformation. -Alice Walker Society must set the artist free to follow [their] vision wherever it takes [them]. Refreshments will be served. Cam's paintings are already hung and are on display for the entire month of May. Drop in anytime to see them. Cam extends thanks to the Out of the Blue Gallery and its owner Tom Tipton; and to the Abu-Sater family, proprietors of the Middle East Restaurant. Artist Statement by Cameron Wilder The onslaught of popular culture contains a sterilizing aspect which depresses me. Reality shows, celebrity apologies, celebrity weight loss products the whole thing seems to flatten out what it means to be human. For me, painting is a way to fight back. I've been asked: "If you don?t like popular culture, why do you use movie stars and such in your art?? My response is: to transmute them, to give them energy, and embed them in the realm of the personal, the dream, and the collective unconscious. To dream them onto the canvas, to use them as one?s subconscious might in a dream, only this dream can be seen by others. In this way, I like to depict the mystery and power of the inner world, which is still safe from corporate development, for want of a better phrase. Biography ? Cameron Wilder Cameron Wilder, a Bostonian, has loved art since getting lost in the illustrations of his dinosaur books as a kid. Illustrations of the natural world fascinated him with the music of their color and created space. Trips to the Museum of Fine Arts introduced him to the works of artists such as Edward Hopper, whose grandeur and melancholy stirred him; and Vincent van Gogh, whose Sunflowers seemed to contain the emotion of living stars. An English major in college who wrote poetry as an avocation for many years, he has come to find painting a more intuitive and satisfying pursuit. --------------------------------- Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo!
